Ultimate Foolproof Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chewy, warm, gooey, buttery. What could be more perfect than a home made chocolate chip cookie straight from the oven? After much experimentation, I’ve decided this recipe is my favorite to make. It’s so simple- they take less time to put together than traditional cookie recipes and you don’t need an electric mixer or any other special equipment.
Incase you need some more convincing to try out this recipe, my father was able to contribute some compelling reasons.
“They taste good.”
“They remind me of childhood when we had no money or food, just chocolate chip cookies.”
“I can eat ‘em drinking beer or I can eat ‘em drinking wine.”
“Reminiscent of a warm summer day”
“I like them on a Friday night” (to the tune of this song…)

Without further ado, le recipe:
Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies
yield: 24 cookies
active prep time: 10-15 minutes inactive prep time: 45 minutes
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 12 oz (1 bag) semisweet chocolate chips
Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt together.
Melt the butter and brown sugar in a bowl in the microwave for 2-4 bursts of 30 seconds, stirring in between.
Let the butter mixture cool, then whisk in the egg yolks and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir together with a whisk or wooden spoon.
Stir in chocolate chips, then refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes to one hour.
Preheat your oven to 375* F. Dish out 3 tbsp portions of cookies onto a parchment paper lined cookie tray. (I use a rounded coffee scoop for this.) Bake the cookies for 10-14 minutes.
Slide the parchment paper off of the cookie try onto a cool surface and let the cookies cool for 2 minutes. Either cool for another minute and serve or transfer to a cooling rack then wrap in plastic or store in a zip-top bag.
Enjoy!
